Family Time Fitness ~ a TOS review

You see these three girls up above…they are active.  When I say active I mean that the older two spend 22+ hours a week in the gym and Montana does 14+ hours a week! So, lets break that down…Madison, Mikayla, and Montana roughly train for gymnastics between 56-88 hours a month…wowzers! As you can probably imagine I am not too worried about them getting enough physical activity.
When a review for Family Time Fitness popped up on the review list I immediately knew I wanted to be on this review. Not for the girls above but for this little girl, McKenzie…who until just recently was not old enough to be in the gymnastics gym.

Family Time Fitness was created in 2010 by fellow homeschooling parents Dr. Peter Minke, Mike Hankik, Jeremiah Knopp and Darren Knopp. Concerned by the fact that homeschooled children did not have access to a physical fitness curriculum.

Collectively the creators agree that,
Exercise done on a regular basis will help with: battling obesity, prevent the most common form of diabetes which is type 2 diabetes, enhance learning, develop proper motor skills, agility, proprioception and confidence.
With the creation of Family Time Fitness they have taken the "guesswork" and planning out of physical fitness. The company focuses on getting kids to exercise and preventing childhood obesity all the while helping kids (and adults) develop a love for physical fitness.

I know you are probably thinking you have to be some fitness guru to make this work, right? No! Prior knowledge of fitness is not needed to teach this program and you, the teacher, do not have to be "in shape."  Family Time Fitness will give you the tools you need to make those small lifestyle changes to help you get in shape and establish a life-long habit of exercise for your children. Physical Education (PE) does not have to be a struggle for homeschooling families thanks to Family Time Fitness.
The Fitness 4 Homeschool Curriculum allows homeschool parents to teach physical education without previous knowledge of physical education and athletic development. Our program, designed by experts in fitness training, nutrition and body movement, is designed to suit every age and ability level while affordably fitting into your budget. Our program combines flexibility and fun with a comprehensive curriculum to give your children a foundation for strong bodies and minds. ~ from website

Most of the activities are super easy and fun for all. I love the fact that you do not need to purchase a lot of special equipment to use the program. All you need are the following items:
~ hula hoops
~ playground balls
~ cones
~ a stop watch
~ measuring tape
~ an exercise mat
Each of Core 1’s 260 lessons starts with a 5-10 minute warm up followed by 10-15 minutes of fun games and activities. All of which is followed by a 3-5 minute cool down period.

~ Start up / training guide
~ 260 professionally planned lesson plans
~ 1-page summaries for portability of individual lessons

So, while this program is geared towards the K-8 crowd I used it 2 days a week primarily focusing on the activities with my youngest daughter, McKenzie, who just turned 3. The older girls joined in on the fun too, even my highschooler who was much less than enthusiastic, and we all had a great time moving and jumping about in the front and backyard with lots of smiles and laughing. pe 041

Our final thoughts about the program is that we LOVE it and jump for joy over it! I have told several families about it whether they are homeschoolers or not. It is a great way to get our family moving and the blood flowing for those times when McKenzie is just a bit restless. It is a nice break during studies to get up and go outside and helps some of my older girls get the wiggles out too. Still not totally convinced?
